Player Rights
Moderation safeguards covering impartiality, appeals, privacy, consistency and retaliation.
Right to Impartial Moderation
Players have the right to have moderation cases handled by staff members who are reasonably impartial. Staff members should not handle cases where they have a significant personal interest, close association, ongoing dispute, or other conflict involving either party.
Right to Request Another Administrator
A player may request that another Administrator review or take over their case if they reasonably believe the current staff member has a conflict of interest or cannot handle the matter impartially. This does not guarantee that a specific Administrator of the player's choosing will be assigned.
Right to Know Why You Are Being Punished
Players are entitled to be told what rule or behaviour resulted in a punishment and, where appropriate, be given a reasonable explanation of the decision.
Right to Present Your Side
Players involved in a report or dispute should be given a reasonable opportunity to explain what happened and provide relevant evidence. Staff may still take immediate action where necessary to stop ongoing harm or rule-breaking.
Right to Appeal
Players may appeal moderation punishments through the appropriate appeal process. Appeals must be reviewed fairly and should, where reasonably possible, be considered by somebody other than the staff member who issued the original punishment.
Right to Report Staff Members
Players may report, criticise, or raise concerns about staff conduct without fear of punishment simply for doing so. Reports made maliciously, dishonestly, or through harassment may still be dealt with under the normal rules.
Right to Privacy During Moderation
Personal information, private reports, sensitive evidence, and moderation discussions should only be shared with staff or others who reasonably need access to them. Staff should not publicly expose or embarrass players unnecessarily when handling a case.
Right to Consistent and Proportionate Enforcement
Players should be treated under the same rules regardless of friendships, rank, Town, Nation, staff connections, donations, or community status. Punishments should take into account the seriousness of the behaviour, previous history, intent, and surrounding circumstances.
Right to Protection From Retaliation
Players must not be targeted, threatened, harassed, punished, or treated unfairly for making a legitimate report, providing evidence, participating in an investigation, or appealing a punishment.
Right to Question Staff Decisions
Players may respectfully ask for clarification, challenge a decision, or disagree with how a rule has been interpreted. Questioning a staff decision is not itself misconduct, although players must still comply with active moderation instructions while the matter is being reviewed.
