Profession Guide

Farming

Grow custom crops, maintain productive fields and supply ingredients to Cooking and Alchemy.

Overview

Farming is built around custom crops and field care. Vanilla crops still work normally and give a small amount of Farming XP, while custom crops and specialist tools unlock as you level.

A crop passes through multiple growth stages. Stage time is the normal time for each configured stage before compost, watering or other profession bonuses.

Field Tools & Bonuses

Most Farming unlocks improve field care, harvesting or replanting rather than simply multiplying crop output.

Composting

At Level 3, profession Compost can boost the next three custom crops on a farmland tile. Rich Compost covers a 3×3 patch and gives a stronger growth boost. Ready composters can provide profession Compost, and custom crop produce can be used as compost input.

Regular: ~50% stage time • Rich: ~35%

Crop Rotation

From Level 9, switching between different crop types within the rotation window awards a small Farming XP bonus.

Foraging

From Level 10, naturally generated grass can reveal Alchemy herbs. The normal find chance is 4%, improving to 7% at Level 30.

Watering Cans

The Iron Watering Can unlocks at Farming 16 with 8 charges; the Steel Watering Can unlocks at 24 with 24 charges. They affect custom crops only, store water on the physical item and spend a charge plus durability on successful use.

Bountiful Harvest

A restrained chance for +1 custom produce unlocks at Level 20 (5%) and improves at Level 26 (10%).

Sickles

At Level 29, Sickles harvest mature custom crops in an area: Iron is 3×3 and Steel is 5×5. Protected or invalid crops are skipped.

Seeds & Replanting

Mature custom crops can recover planting stock. Progression improves that chance slightly, while Green Thumb can automatically replant a harvested crop by consuming the correct planting item.

Specialist Farmer

At Level 30, eligible higher-level custom crops gain a restrained faster-growth chance and the Foraging find chance reaches 7%.

Foraging pool. Belladonna, Bog Moss, Foxbell, Lavender, Mugwort, Nettles and Yarrow can be found from eligible naturally generated grass. Player-placed grass is excluded and locations have a cooldown.
Cross-profession links. Farming supplies custom crops to Cooking and herbs to Alchemy. Watering Cans and Sickles are manufactured through Blacksmithing, while the Farmer’s own level controls when their special Farming mechanics can be used.

Vanilla Crop XP

Vanilla crops keep their normal Minecraft growth rules. Mature harvests simply award a smaller amount of Farming XP.
