Tianji

Tianji

Tianji is a modest port-city located among the rocky coast of northern Suthelan. Founded around 250 BS by the noble Jiang family, now extinct, the port was first created following the exile of the Jiang family from one of the other ports due to a marriage scandal. In defiance, its elder at the time used the last drops of his wealth to pay for the construction of an estate among the rocks, as well as a dockyard.

This investment would unfortunately not pay off, as ships found it difficult to traverse the rocky coast and several incidents occurred which made merchants and nobles wary of the port. The Jiang family would eventually be forced to sell the estate it had constructed to another noble house, the Lanbaoshi family, which began the gradual construction of other settlements across the rocks, attracting citizens and slowly creating a reason for goods to be shipped in. Eventually, much of the rocky coast would be worn down using miners, allowing larger ships access to the port.

The Lanbaoshi Period

For much of its history after that, the Lanbaoshi family and Tianji would be regarded as insignificant. It was nothing compared to the golden harbours of the mighty First House and the other lords of the trading realm.

There isn't much more to talk about until around 420 AS, when the port began to become increasingly busy as other ports broke down, began to be abandoned, or were simply left behind. This was due to how exposed they were to the adverse climate changes, while Tianji was protected by the very high cliffs and rocks that had once doomed it.

The First House Arrives

Eventually, around 460 AS, the First House would forcibly buy out the Lanbaoshi Estate and move into Tianji. Once that happened, the city exploded in population and settlement as much of the realm's nobility and population began flocking to it, creating a major crisis as the once-small port had never been built to support so many people.
