Races of Vastala
The major races found across Cuthelan, Suthelan and the Silent Ocean, shaped by migration, environment and adaptation.
Mistlike
The Mistlike race is a widespread water-based race that originates primarily from the Silent Ocean. Over time, they spread to become dominant in many bodies of water across both Cuthelan and Suthelan. Their greatest strength is their ability to adapt, evolve and change when faced with difficult environments.
Although Mistlikes are treated as one race, they contain hundreds of subraces. Some are far more adapted to water than others. In the deep ravines at the bottom of the Silent Ocean, there are known Mistlike folk who are completely blind and cannibalistic. Near the coast of Suthelan, other Mistlike populations have adapted to live mainly on land, returning to the water to moisturise.
Aeriifol
The Aeriifol are a unique race native to the high cliffs of central Suthelan. Following migrations after the Seventh Sundering, they also became established in certain communities across both Cuthelan and Suthelan.
Aeriifol are known for their expansive wings and their ability to fly. Like the Mistlikes, they contain numerous subraces, including insect, bird and reptile-like forms. Their wings and flight are the traits that keep these otherwise varied peoples grouped together.
Anarions
The Anarions are the most widespread and dominant race. They originated from the Rhaz, or Rhazir. Between roughly 8000 and 5000 BS, Anarion peoples began leaving the fertile lands of the Rhaz and spread through Iskandar, Anarion, Skaldrim and other regions.
They can also be found within Suthelan in smaller communities created through migrations, settlement and other movements of people. Anarions are by far the most populous race in the known world.
Floraine
The Floraine are a plant-humanoid race found specifically in the southern regions of the former Vastalan Crownrealm, in the area now known as the Floraine Region.
Unlike the other major races, the Floraine are not considered naturally created. Their origins are linked to unknown creation magic that began the race. Since then they have spread quickly through root growth and their ability to replicate without a partner.
Dwarverins
Dwarverins are a humanoid species native to Suthelan, particularly its northern regions. They adapted to the cramped caves within the continent's large mountainous areas.
They are generally known for being bulky, dense and particularly short, traits associated with life in the confined underground environments of northern Suthelan.
Shirefolk
The Shirefolk are a beast-humanoid species native to Westshire, Cuthelan. They are an extremely diverse race because different communities adapted to their local surroundings in different ways.
Some Shirefolk have feline-like traits and appearances, while others have a more bear-like stature and are bulkier and stronger. Although the race originated in Westshire, Shirefolk communities are now found across the continent.
