Cooking Profession Development

The Cooking profession entered development with around 70 new items, including crafting components, ingredients, foods and other profession items.

The first food set is mostly inspired by English tavern food, with room for more styles and expansions later on.

Cheese Making

Cheese making was one of the first major systems added. The profession uses a Dairy Station and an Aging Barrel so cheese is made through its own process instead of one normal crafting recipe.

Behind the scenesA lot of Blockbench and texture work went into the first Cooking pass. After several days of cheese, pies, bottles and cornbread, cornbread may never look the same again.

Cooking & Dairy Changelog

The next Cooking pass expanded the profession with a fuller dairy loop, cheese quality, meal categories and supporting profession updates.

Dairy & Cooking

Cooking now has two unique crafting stations made with vanilla blocks: the Dairy Station and the Aging Barrel.

These stations let players turn milk and other ingredients into cheese, yoghurt, butter and more. The dairy ingredients then feed back into other Cooking recipes.

Cheese Quality, Aging & Adapting

Cheese has a star quality rating that improves as it ages. Different cheeses age in different ways, so the best time to take one out of the barrel depends on what you are making.

Higher quality cheese can give useful buffs such as Resistance, Regeneration and Strength, along with other positive bonuses.

Why Eat the New Food?

The new food system is split into snacks, light meals and hearty meals. This gives bigger meals a reason to exist next to simple food like bread or golden carrots.

Light and hearty meals give active regeneration and higher saturation. Meals can also be eaten when you are not hungry, so you do not have to wait for your hunger bar to drop before topping up saturation.
